Editorial standards
Methodology & limitations
The point of a ranking is not to make uncertainty disappear. It is to show readers what the publication actually knows, what it is judging, and where evidence stops.
Who publishes this site
Houston Design House is the publisher. It is a focused Houston design publication created by designers to help business owners and fellow designers compare local agencies through informed editorial judgment and clearly explained criteria.
The publication does not claim to be a testing laboratory, certification body, or independent research institute. Material relationships and publisher-directed placements should be disclosed on the article where they matter.
Four evidence states
Verified fact
A fact traceable to a current source, such as a published service, office address, named portfolio project, disclosed platform, or public price.
Reported claim
A statement an agency makes about its own process or capabilities. It can be useful evidence without being treated as an independently reproduced result.
Editorial judgment
A comparative conclusion made by the publisher using the stated article criteria. Editorial judgments should be explained rather than disguised as measurements.
Unknown
Information that could not be established reliably. Unknown pricing, technology, benchmarks, or review metadata stays unknown.
How ranking criteria work
Criteria change with the subject of the article. A web-design comparison can consider design quality, technical execution, responsive implementation, maintainability, SEO foundations, portfolio evidence, and pricing transparency. A future SEO article should use criteria appropriate to SEO instead of mechanically reusing the same rubric.
Houston Design House can support qualitative assessments or explicit numerical scoring, but it should not invent scores to fill a graphic. If numerical scoring is introduced later, its definitions, weights, and inputs must be published and used consistently.
Technology is context, not a shortcut
A platform name does not decide quality by itself. WordPress is not automatically slow or insecure; Webflow is not automatically well implemented; and a modern framework does not guarantee an accessible, maintainable, or high-performing result. Technology is evaluated in the context of execution and project fit.
Freshness and dates
Article URLs remain date-free. Visible month-and-year labels are derived from a substantive content-update date, while the original publication date is preserved. Rebuilding the site or changing the calendar does not advance the article date.
Reviews, images, and measured results
Review text or clearly labeled review summaries must be authentic in substance and attributable to a permitted source. Portfolio imagery must represent genuine work. Performance results, accessibility results, and technical benchmarks should only be published when they have actually been measured and the method can be explained.
Machine-readable versions
HTML, Markdown article exports, llms.txt, structured data, and the XML sitemap are generated from the same underlying content model where practical. Alternate formats are companions to the canonical human-facing page, not a second set of claims written only for bots.
